This Residential Aged Care Communiqué August 2023 edition examines the premature deaths of residents due to suboptimal management of diabetes mellitus. The lessons include addressing management of diabetes mellitus at a policy level with development of protocols, better communication between health professionals and prompt decision-making to escalate care.
