Welcome to the April 2022 edition of the Future Leaders Communiqué. This edition focuses on the preventable death of a six-year-old child from sepsis. Sepsis is one of the leading causes of mortality in children worldwide. Despite this, timely recognition and management of sepsis in children remains a significant challenge to clinicians and healthcare systems. Our guest editor for this edition, Dr David Brough, has collated an insightful review of this coroner’s case, appended by expert commentaries from A/Prof Merrole Cole-Sinclair and Prof Clare Nourse, to explore what lessons are to be learned from this case and how to apply them to your own clinical practice.
